Think back to your childhood and picture all the cardboard boxes you turned into spaceships and racecars. You customized them inside and out; the graphics, the door panels and the dashboards, with the help of Crayola I’m sure. Not this guy, he used McLaren’s crayons.
In 2002 British designer Lee McCormack envisioned and produced the “Oculas”, an embryonic form with cutting edge design and technology. In 2005 discussions began with McLaren Applied Technologies – the specialized design & technology division within the McLaren Group – transcending into the all-new Ovei today.
Hand-made over ten weeks, the Ovei is limited to 500 worldwide.
“Technology has now found its way into every facet of our lives. So I felt, to integrate fully, it demanded a new type of space. I wanted to create a new concept: something that was both calming and luxurious whilst affording the opportunity for intense focus and clarity of mind. The result was the form of the Ovei, sculpted and nurtured to maintain a sense of simplicity. Whilst delivering advanced digital experiences, it moves it away from the perception of pure technology. The Ovei presents itself as organic – a piece of sculpture, art and design” says McCormack.
It’s a self-contained unit with a built-in 5.1. surround sound system and JBL sub woofer, variable lighting control, climate control, luxury seating and the latest flat screen technology. Ovei is designed to heighten the senses and broaden the horizons of any personal experience. It defines immersive entertainment. The pod accommodates one, two or three people by addition or removal of extension modules. The interior works on a modular basis, transforming easily between videoconferencing, flight simulation, diagnostics, gaming, marketing etc.

A webcam lets you video conference via the 24in Dell LCD ultra-sharp widescreen monitor, connected to an Evesham Mini PC. Or hook the screen up and get your Game on.
‘Ovei Eight Elements’ is a custom-built client diagnosis and consultation environment for therapists and healthcare professionals. It captures healthcare data and sends it to doctors, therapists and psychologists across the world.
A version is also being developed for Spa operators. Enhancing assessment and relaxation regimes, Ovei is capable of monitoring and delivering proven cognitive therapy and coaching programs. Applications range from treatments for insomnia, anxiety and phobias to performance improvement for sport and business.
It was showcased as part of the London Science Museum’s Fast Forward F1 technology exhibition.
I can just imagine you going to dig out your flexible curve rulers and encouraging your kids to “Create, Create, Create Children!”
